Mvula was greeted at Manchester Airport by Thunder managing director Debbie Hallas and head coach Karen Greig.

Also in the welcoming party was Kondwani Munthali, an official from the Malawi UK High Commissioner Office and Malembe Makawa of the Malawi Manchester Association (MMA).

The Malawi Queen, 22, is an experienced player on the international scene, having represented her country at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014 and Netball World Cup in Sydney in 2015.

She was also a member of the squad which beat the England Roses to take third place in the recent Fast5 tournament.

Mvula said: “I am really happy to be playing in the Superleague as it is one of the best in the world. Coming from Malawi, for me, it is a great achievement. I am looking forward to joining up with the team.”

Greig said of her new import signing: “I am excited to have Joyce on board, having observed her during the NWC last year and fast fives more recently Joyce has proven that she is an exciting shooter who has great physical capabilities and ability to play both GS & GA and will pose a great threat to any defence she faces.  I am really looking forward to welcoming her into the Thunder family. “
