Tamsin Greenway’s return to Vitality Netball Superleague action inspired her Wasps Netball side to a 62-40 win against Celtic Dragons.

Injuries to Amy Flanagan and Sophia Candappa forced a reshuffle, paving way for Wasps Director of Netball Greenway to make her first Superleague appearance since retiring in 2015.

Wasps Netball produced an impressive second half display to build a big lead against the visiting Welsh team, finishing the game with a convincing 22 goal-margin victory.

Tamsin Greenway said: “I’m really pleased with how the team responded to the changes we were forced to make tonight.

“Playing in this game wasn’t planned - there was no Greenway on the back of my dress. My job here is to win games, I still play and train with the girls and after losing two of our starting seven we were forced into making some changes.

“It was nice to have a run around and get back on court but it’s a short-term fix, we need to get past these injuries and start getting players back out there.

“We’ve had a bit of a rollercoaster season. I’m impressed with how the players have bounced back in recent weeks, so now we need to get into that top four and then of course anything can happen from there."

Wasps Netball opened the game with George Fisher restored at goal shooter, and she started the game in impressive fashion, showing composure in front of goal to stretch her team out to an early three-goal lead.

But some good work from Dragons’ goal attack Kalifa McCollin feeding Eleanor Roberts in the shooting circle kept it close, limiting Wasps to a tight one-goal lead following the first quarter.

The hotly-contested action continued into the second half, with Wasps' Josie Huckle making a solid stance on the defensive end and helping extend the Wasps lead to five.

Back came Dragons again, Roberts seemingly unable to miss, bringing her team level going into half-time.

The third quarter saw the return of Tamsin Greenway to the Superleague netball court, with the Wasps Director of Netball taking on a new hands-on approach in a bid to get the victory.

The change immediately paid off for Wasps, with Greenway linking up well with Rachel Dunn and Natalie Haythornthwaite to form an exciting attacking trio to take control of the game.

After building the lead to an unassailable 16, Greenway returned to the bench, with Lucy Harris coming onto the court for her Wasps Netball debut.

Wasps continued to grow their lead throughout the fourth quarter, ending the game 62-40 winners.

Wasps Netball’s next match sees them face Team Northumbria at the Ricoh Arena on Friday, April 14 (6.00pm centre pass), with a ‘Back to the 90s’ theme for fans to enjoy with a pre-match silent disco in the Fan Village.

Tickets for Wasps Netball vs Team Northumbria on April 14 start from £10 for adults while under-10s go free, and can be purchased from www.waspsnetball.co.uk/tickets.
