An incredible shooting display from George Fisher led Wasps Netball to a resounding 62-46 victory against Severn Stars.

The win made it seven in a row for Wasps Netball, with nearly 1,400 fans packed into the Ricoh Arena to witness the run continue in the Vitality Netball Superleague.

Wasps Director of Netball Tamsin Greenway believes the win secures their Final Four place and was impressed with how they grew into the game.

Greenway said: “I thought George Fisher was outstanding tonight, she showed exactly why we brought her here. We’re a team building for the future and George showed what our team is all about tonight.

“Mentally today we were very tough, everybody grew into the game as it went on and the team really impressed me.

“I think mathematically now it would be very difficult for us to drop out of the top four.

“In two weeks’ time we will probably know who we’ll have in semi-finals, which will be good because it will give us a chance to work on the tactics for how we are going to take those team’s down.”

Severn Stars started the game fast, racing out to a three goal lead but Wasps came roaring back and soon had the lead against their Midlands rivals.

Both sides looked to be in top shooting form but it was Wasps talented teenage goal shooter George Fisher who shone the brightest in the early stages against Stars.

Fisher put on first quarter shooting clinic, looking reliable when presented with an opportunity and helping her team to a 13-10 advantage going into the second quarter.

Wasps threatened to open up a big lead in the second quarter, but Stars kept pace with the home-side, Laura Malcolm and Eleanor Cardwell impressing for the visitors.

Stars defensive intensity increased as the game developed, with Nat Haythornthwaite and Jodie Gibson proving a key battle around the circle.

But despite a high quality display from both sides, it was Wasps who held a significant nine goal advantage at half-time.

Wasps looked to continue their strong end to the half in the third quarter of action, with some good work in the mid-court allowing them to extend their lead

Wasps defensive duo Josie Huckle and Hannah Reid did well to disrupt Stars goal shooter Cardwell – and with Fisher still seemingly unable to miss, Wasps led by a margin of 13.

Greenway entered the fold to help push her team to the win in the final quarter and immediately linked up well with Fisher and Haythornthwaite to assert their offensive dominance.

Fisher finished the game with a near-perfect shooting display, showing incredible range and leading her team to a convincing 62-46 victory.
