Share After a narrow 49-44 defeat at the hands of Hertfordshire Mavericks on Saturday, we caught up with Lightning Head Coach Karen Atkinson to reflect on the result. “We always knew it was going to be a hard fought game. We didn’t start well which is an area that we need to look at. The game was pretty error ridden which shows the defensive pressure being applied by both teams. “There were some positive elements of play which showed what we are capable of, both in attack and defence, but not for long enough periods. We need to look at the times when we went ahead and identify what prevented us from pulling away. “Congratulations to Mavericks who dug deep and finished the match well. It is exciting for Loughborough Lightning and the league in general that such quality to the wire matches are being contested this early in the season. “We now need to learn lessons quickly from this game in order to perform more consistently in our double header at home next weekend against Dragons and Thunder”. Sasha Corbin’s season-ending injury will be a big blow for the Lightning Squad but they’ll look to bounce back this weekend.
