Netball Scotland have named 11 Strathclyde Sirens players in their 12-strong squad for the Vitality Netball World Cup in Liverpool this July.

Scotland qualified for the competition after completing a flawless weekend at the Vitality Netball World Cup 2019 Regional Qualifier – Europe.

The team will be captained by play-maker Claire Maxwell, who is set to reach her 100th senior international cap during the opening stage of the Vitality Netball World Cup.

Discussing the team’s preparations, she said: “We are currently working extremely hard in training to make sure we hit the Vitality Netball World Cup at our absolute best.

“For many of the team, this is their first World Cup and it is testament to their hard work that they have made the team that will compete at our sport’s pinnacle event.

“Over the next six weeks, we will be looking to cement our combinations and mimic the competition format to ensure we have done everything we can in preparation.”

Young gun Emma Barrie is set to earn her first senior international cap at the Vitality Netball World Cup at just 17.

Her call-up comes after a breakthrough Vitality Netball Superleague season, which saw her nominated for the Sky Sports Fans’ Player of the Year Award.

The Scottish Thistles’ squad selection means that all ten Vitality Netball Superleague sides will be represented at the Vitality Netball World Cup this year.

Scotland will start their campaign against Samoa on Friday 12th July before a home nations clash against the Vitality Roses on Saturday 13th July.

Their final Preliminaries Stage One game sees them take on Uganda on Sunday 14th July.

The Scottish Thistles will be looking to improve on their 12th-place finish at the Netball World Cup 2015 in Sydney.
