Alima Priest re-signs for Storm

Defender Alima Priest will return to Surrey Storm and the Sports Park Arena for the 2020 Vitality Netball Superleague season.

The 24-year-old, a graduate of the Storm NTL and NPL squads, was one of Storm’s training partners last season and made her Vitality Netball Superleague debut in January 2019.

“I’m so happy to be back involved at Storm, and I’m ready to build on last year,” said Priest. “Storm was my first club and I’ve always felt an affinity to it, and after my time away at university I feel like I’ve come back home to a place where I’m comfortable and confident. Now I want to build on the skills that I’ve learned at NPL standard.”

Although initially surprised to make her breakthrough last season, Priest seized the opportunity with both hands, with a number of strong performances which included a Player of the Match award against Loughborough Lightning at the Sports Park Arena.

“I didn’t even expect to play, and just thought that I’d keep working hard so that I’d be considered,” she admits. “When I did get on it was a shock but I was so ready! I’ve had that taste and I want to keep playing and doing well. I always think there’s areas for improvement but I’m still pretty new to it and I’ve got lots to learn.

“I’m more than ready to continue to grow. I’ve always thought that as long as I’m improving myself, that’s all I can do. I’ve already put in some work to make sure that I’m at a better starting point now than I was at last year. And of course, I want to get on and play – who doesn’t? Small steps, and hopefully I’ll get to where I want to be.”

“Alima is so coachable – she listens intently to all of your instruction and she will make it her mission to go out there and produce on court,” praised Mikki Austin. “She thoroughly deserves the opportunity to be back in duck egg blue and I look forward to continuing to work with Alima.”
