Liana Leota wins Vitality Fans' Player of the Series.

during Game 3 of the Vitality Netball Legends Series at Loughborough University, Loughborough, England on 24th January 2021

Liana Leota picked up the coveted Vitality Fans’ Player of the Series accolade following the conclusion of the Vitality Netball Legends Series on Sunday night.

The New Zealand international picked up the award after it was decided by public vote which was open to fans throughout the competition.

More than 1,000 viewers vote for the Severn Stars player who secured 22.87% of the vote after three scintillating displays.

Leota, a Commonwealth Games winner, might have lost all three games in Loughborough but stood out thanks to her flamboyant yet consistent performances against the Vitality Roses.

The 36-year-old captained the Vitality Netball Superleague All Stars for the series and captured the imaginations with no-look passes, dynamic attacking play and admirable athleticism. The 2019 VNSL champion spoke to Sky Sports after the match.

“I think that’s what I have missed the most, being in a professional and elite environment. To be able to come out, perform and get some game time before the Vitality Netball Superleague has been really enjoyable,” she said following the final 55-43 defeat.

She continued: “I am super proud of my team. We had three training sessions before the matches and we’ve just grown and grown. I’m a perfectionist, I want structures but I just had to drop that and come out and play. That’s credit to my teammates.”

Leota was joined by former Wasps Netball superstar Nat Haythornthwaite in being handed an individual award. The VNSL winner was gifted Sky Sport’s Player of the Series award thanks to her displays with England.
