Wasps defeated Celtic Dragons 60-37 to seal the host’s second win of the season in the Vitality Netball Superleague 2022 season.

Rachel Dunn was a key player for Wasps in a match which marked her 250th league appearance. Celtic Dragons quickly took a narrow lead, but the veteran goal shooter helped the home side come from behind in the first quarter to lead 12-10 at the end of the first period of play.

Wasps continued to pile the pressure on the visiting side in the second quarter, dominating possession and achieving more interceptions than Dragons. Josie Huckle captained a strong defence for the hosts, which coupled with the shooting ability of Dunn enabled Wasps to stretch their lead to 10 goals by the half-time break.

The home side found yet another gear in the third quarter, relentlessly attacking the Dragons net and giving them no chance to counter. The partnership of Lucy Parize and Rachel Dunn was key to the Wasps’ success, as the duo combined countless times to pile misery on the visitors.

Celtic Dragons also struggled to handle the pace with which the hosts passed in the final third, registering far fewer interceptions than their free-flowing opponents. With momentum in their favour and confidence rising, Wasps extended their lead to 21 goals in quarter three as they went in to the final quarter 46-25.

Wasps brought on a number of substitutes in the final quarter who helped the home side maintain their commanding lead.  Player of the Match Ella Powell-Davies stood strong in defence alongside captain Josie Huckle to prevent the Dragons from clawing back the deficit, and ultimately the Wasps held out to win 60-37 on the day. It was a commanding performance and deserved result from a side that has only one once in their last six games.

Player of the Match: Ella Powell-Davies (Wasps).
