Wasps Netball secured their fourth consecutive win with a dominant display away from home against Hertfordshire Mavericks, earning them a 51-58 victory.

Tamsin Greenway’s side now sit second in the Vitality Netball Superleague - keeping pressure on league leaders Loughborough Lightning as they enter the second half of the season.

Wasps began to pull away from Mavericks in the second quarter and maintained the winning margin throughout the match.

Tamsin Greenway, Wasps Director of Netball, said: “It was a good win today, very satisfying and I was really pleased with how the players came through a tough start to win.

“Mavericks never let up, we knew they’d be gunning for us at home and that’s exactly what they did.

“Although the scoreline wasn’t huge, it still felt quite comfortable with the way we were playing – we were doing some brilliant stuff out there and played some very smart netball against a quality young team.

“Our team is definitely gelling together now, the partnerships on the court are starting to work well and putting in some very solid performances.

“Next up we will be playing Sirens back at the Ricoh Arena and we’ll be focused on cementing our top four spot as we go into this crucial period of the season.”

The game's high-tempo was set from the first centre-pass, with the home side fast out of the gates to score the opening two goals.

Lucy Harris and Natalie Haythornthwaite linked up well with Wasps goal shooter Rachel Dunn, who looked assured in-front of goal from the first quarter.

Bongi Msomi picked up where she left off on Friday night – continuing her dominance in the mid-court and helping her side build a six goal advantage early in the second period.

An impressive shooting display from Mavericks’ Vicklyn Joseph kept the home side in touching distance as half-time approached, leaving the score at 22-28 at half-time.

The combination of Haythornthwaite and Dunn continued to trouble the Mavericks’ defenders in the third quarter, with a dominant mid-court display seeing Wasps race into an 11 goal lead.

Despite a significant lead, Mavericks continued to battle and put Wasps under heavy pressure, with Wasps only holding a six goal advantage early in the final quarter.

Tamsin Greenway was introduced for the final quarter, feeding sharpshooter Dunn to keep Wasps ahead.

The defensive combination of Josie Huckle and Hannah Reid stood firm in the final few minutes, pushing Wasps to their fourth consecutive win and a season-sweep against Hertfordshire Mavericks.

Wasps Netball’s next fixture will see them face Sirens on at the Ricoh Arena on Sunday, April 23 (2.00pm centre-pass) – as they look to make it three home wins in a row.

Tickets for Wasps Netball vs Sirens on April 23 start from £10 for adults while under-10s go free, and can be purchased from www.waspsnetball.co.uk/tickets.
