How and when did you get involved in umpiring?

6 years ago my local netball club (Aston Netball Club) were looking for a volunteer to go on a C Award course to be eligible to play in local leagues. Being in the right place at the right time, I soon began to realise where my passion is and my playing days were over. The rest is history!

What has been your favourite memory on or off court?

My first World Netball appointment was a memorable trip to India. Experiencing a new culture and meeting different people from all over the world.
A highlight was umpiring the final of Asian Championships 2024 with Kate Wright when she umpired her 100th International match, memories that will last a lifetime.

Do you have any pre-match rituals before a game?

I always have to tie my hair up in exactly same way every match I umpire!

Who has had the biggest influence on your umpiring so far?

Sharon Scott and Lolla Daniel were hugely influential mentors during my progression from umpiring local leagues in the North East to becoming an A Award umpire. More recently, Kim Burns and other invaluable mentors have significantly shaped my development. They have provided constructive feedback, kept me grounded, and always been just a phone call away with encouragement and support. Without their guidance, I wouldn’t be the umpire I am today.

What is the best part about being a Super League umpire?

It’s such a huge privilege to be involved with the sport at the highest level, something I will never take for granted. Also, being a part of a fantastic team of officials who support each other on and off the court and continue to make lifelong friendships and memories.

What advice would you give to someone considering becoming an umpire?

100% give it a go. There’s no better time to pick up a whistle. You’ve got nothing to lose. You might find that you love it and then the opportunities are endless with the right mindset, commitment and support around you. Listen to those around you and trust the process!
