Share Severn Stars, the joint franchise between the University of Gloucestershire and the University of Worcester, will embark on their fourth season in the Vitality Netball Superleague following the official season launch yesterday. The event, held at the University of Gloucestershire’s School of Business and Technology, was the first opportunity to meet all the 2020 Severn Stars players and training partners, as well as the sponsors and club directors Anita Navin and Mick Donovan. The launch saw Head Coach, Melissa Bessell, present kit and stars to each player after reading a short poem she had written about the team. This year’s lineup includes: Liana Leota Nia Jones Ella Powell-Davies Georgia Rowe Lucy Harris Paige Reed Beth Dyke Lucy Herdman Ama Agbeze Towera Vinkhumbo Anita Navin, Co-Director of Severn Stars, said: “I’m really thrilled! Melissa has shown excellent leadership, got the players organised and managed the team. We feel like we are in a strong position going forward to the league games. She’s really worked hard in preseason with the players and they have committed fully. They feel as though they’re ready and they’ve prepared really well.” Melissa Bessell, Head Coach for Severn Stars, said: “The new team is awesome, we have come such a long way since Christmas. I can honestly say that I know each and every one of these girls really well now and that’s what it’s like in a team. You want to know everything so that you can all support and encourage each other, and that’s how I coach. They are a great bunch of girls, they really are.” The first Severn Stars match to start the season will be against Saracens Mavericks at Arena Birmingham on Saturday, 22 February, at 2.30 pm.
