London Pulse secured the first win of a double-game weekend with a 52-37 victory over Celtic Dragons at the Copper Box Arena.

A tight first quarter saw both teams taking time to settle and the game going goal for goal. Great defensive pressure from Pulse saw them take out a solid 15-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Pulse got off to a strong start pulling the lead out to 8, the pick of the scores saw Ellie Rattu find Liv Tchine under the post from the centre circle with a bullet of a ball for her to score.

The momentum then seemed to swing in Pulse’s favour only for a breaking call on Pulse followed by a big intercept from Shaquanda Greene-Noel saw the pendulum swing the other way and at half-time Dragon had pulled it back to within two at 27-25.

Pulse rang in the changes with Halimat Adio, Funmi Fadoju , Sacha McDonald and Ashleigh Dekker all entering the fray for the third quarter.

Despite this, it was the Dragons who got off to the quicker start as they brought the score to 28 all.

Good work between Alicia Scholes and Fadoju turned the tide in Pulse’s favour as they went into the final quarter with a nine-goal lead at 39-30.

Although they needed a big final quarter, the visitors seemed hesitant to put the ball into the circle anywhere near Fadoju, allowing the defenders to win the three-second call early in the quarter.

The defensive unit of Fadoju, Adio, Everitt and Rattu forced mistakes from the Dragons’ attack, while at the other end the Pulse attack were calm in front of goal to close out the game 52-37 after a big final quarter.
