NIC Leeds Rhinos have signed one of England Netball’s best up and coming stars, Yomi Wilson, who was this year named in the Vitality Roses squad.
Wilson, who plays goalkeeper and goal defence, has previously played for Manchester Thunder’s NXT Gen and has been part of the Future Roses programme, joins up with her former coach Lauren Palmer as the club prepare for their sixth season in the Netball Super League.
The 21-year-old has combined playing for Thunder with studying for a Law degree at the University of Manchester and featured regularly across the season for Thunder NXT Gen.
Speaking about signing for the Rhinos, Wilson said: “It’s a great feeling, definitely a big step up from NXT Gen and Lauren is someone that I've worked with in the past, so I am super excited.
“Me and Harriet play for the same regional team as well and we've played on Thunder with each other for quite a few years. I've also had experience with Joyce and Paige through NSL at Thunder. So it’s good that we already have connections built from past experiences in and out of England camps as well. I’m excited to rejoin those girls.”
NIC Rhinos Netball Head Coach, Lauren Palmer, added: “I’m really pleased to welcome Yomi Wilson to the Rhinos. She’s an exciting young English talent with incredible potential, and someone I’ve had the pleasure of working with for several years.
“Yomi is a dynamic defender with exceptional range and reach, making her one of the hardest players to shoot over. She’s also got great aerial ability — she can fly through the air and win ball in spectacular fashion.
“Her presence will truly bolster our defensive unit, and I’m excited to see her continue to grow and thrive in our environment.”
