Netball Super League | Where to Watch: Round 8

Round eight of the Netball Super League (NSL) is fast approaching. Find out all the vital information about where to watch and follow the action over the next few days.

Round seven brought us some close wins for Severn Stars and Leeds Rhinos, as well as dominant displays from Loughborough Lightning, Manchester Thunder and London Pulse, and the competition has plenty more exciting match-ups to look forward to this weekend.

On Friday 5 April fans can watch London Pulse return home after two wins on the road to host Strathclyde Sirens on BBC Sport.

And on Sunday 7 April, Sky Sports will be broadcasting what is sure to be an intense match-up between Saracens Mavericks and Manchester Thunder at the iconic Ovo Arena Wembley.

London Pulse v Strathclyde Sirens – First Centre Pass at 19:30 Friday 5 April

After two wins away from home London Pulse will return to the Copper Box Arena this Friday full of confidence. Sam Bird’s side have built strong connections across the court, and this was demonstrated with four Pulse players being selected in Sonia Mkoloma’s Team of the Week in round seven. Berri Neil at goal attack, Alicia Scholes at wing attack, Funmi Fadoju at goal defence, and Halimat Adio at goal keeper were all picked as top performers across the league in round seven. To combat this full court strength, Strathclyde Sirens will need some stand out performances of their own and Sammy Ngubane’s trademark creative play in attack will be crucial to work through the tight Pulse defence. Sirens last beat Pulse in 2021 at the Copper Box Arena, will they be able to repeat this performance this weekend?

London Pulse Player to Watch: Izzi Phillips has burst onto the NSL scene this year. Aged just 17 she has built a commanding presence in the Pulse midcourt and is beginning to take ownership of the centre bib. Her ability to connect the star-studded attack and defence ends of London Pulse will be crucial to working the ball through a strong Sirens’ midcourt defence.

Strathclyde Sirens Player to Watch: Millie Sanders started Sirens’ round seven game in the wing defence position, before moving to goal keeper later in the game. Notching up three intercepts, four deflections and two pick ups, she was voted as the player of the match by Sirens fans and will be keen to cement her position in the starting seven with another strong defensive performance this week.

Saracens Mavericks v Manchester Thunder – First Centre Pass at 16:00 Sunday 7 April

Saracens Mavericks head to Wembley on Sunday where they will host Manchester Thunder and are looking to take their first win against the northern side since 2018. Whilst Thunder are riding high from a 79-42 win at home in round seven, Mavericks have a point to prove after a two-goal loss to Severn Stars at home. Wembley Arena will provide the perfect backdrop to this clash between old rivals, but will the support from the crowd be enough to help Mavericks across the line?

Saracens Mavericks Player to Watch: Georgia Lees currently sits second in the league leaderboard for feeds on 233 this season so far. She is beaten only by Thunder’s Nat Metcalf, who is the league leader on 285. This game provides a chance for fans to watch two of the best wing attacks in the league match up in a bid to provide the best service to their shooters and keep that scoreboard ticking over.

Manchester Thunder Player to Watch: Nat Metcalf is a formidable feeder and her round six performance proved this without doubt. She delivered an incredible 56 feeds into the circle in Thunder’s win over Team Bath. Whether she is up against Mavericks captain Jodie Gibson or young talent Aliyah Zaranyika in wing defence, this is not a match up to be missed.

The rest of the round

On top of our broadcast games, there are two more matches taking place on Friday 5 April and one more on Sunday 7 April that you can buy tickets to watch live, or follow the action on X.

Loughborough Lightning host the LexisNexis Cardiff Dragons at 6pm on Friday. Despite a slow start proving too difficult to overcome, Jill McIntosh’s side had a strong second-half performance against London Pulse in round six, winning the second half by two goals. They will be looking to take confidence from this into their visit to the reigning champions’ home court.

Leeds Rhinos then travel to Bath on Friday at 7:30pm where they will be hoping to continue the momentum from their round seven 64-60 win over Surrey Storm. Team Bath on the other hand are expecting a large home crowd to cheer them on as they search for their second win of the season.

Finally, fans can enjoy a battle between Severn Stars and Surrey Storm at the University of Worcester Arena on Sunday at 4pm. Severn Stars are celebrating all things NETBALLHer as they host this game, so fans heading down to the arena can look out for some educational and empowering activations. On the court itself, this match up is sure to provide plenty of entertainment, the Jaz Brown and Proscovia Peace battle is certainly one not to be missed!
