Share Surrey Storm have today announced a new addition to their 2024 squad. Anya Wood is a former Storm youth player and went on to play in the Loughborough Lightning set up. She has experience in the English Premier League, playing for the Downs in the 2023 season, as well as playing in the NPL. Originally from High Wycombe, Anya was first called up to the National Academy in 2016 and went on to be a part of the England U19s and U21 squads, and feature in events such as Netball Europe and an U19 tour of New Zealand in 2017. Anya has since taken a break from netball, but returns this upcoming season to claim a spot in the Surrey Storm 2024 squad. On returning to play in duck egg blue, Wood said: “After taking a break from the Super League for a few years I’m super excited to be back where it all started at Surrey Storm!” Head Coach, Mikki Austin is looking forward to seeing Anya in action: “As a previous Surrey Storm youth player, Anya has shown great promise throughout her years competing in NPL alongside the Downs in the Premier League. It’s been a privilege to see the growth she has made as a young athlete within our pathway, and now giving her an opportunity to step up into NSL. Anya is a prime example of what we are trying to achieve here at Surrey Storm.” You can keep up to date with all the 2024 squads and signings here.
