Ugandan She Cranes announce squad ahead of double series

Amongst a strong squad of 13 athletes, two Netball Super League (NSL) stars are set to take to court at the end of this month against Wales and again at the Vitality Netball Nations Cup.

Loughborough Lightning and NSL2023 winner, Mary Cholhok will be back for Uganda; gracing fans with her her prolific shooting skills and on court ability for the first time in 2024.

Cholhok, who was last year’s top scorer for the season, sinking 808 goals in the regular rounds, is ready and raring to go for her first competition of the year. With only several weeks to go until the Season Opener, fans are getting excited about watching one of their favourites yet again.

Following an impressive performance at the Netball World Cup last summer, Haniisha Muhameed, who has recently signed for Surrey Storm, will don the Ugandan dress at the end of the month.

The goal shooter and goal keeper who is most versatile in her game, will be representing the She Cranes as well as letting fans know her game ahead of the 2024 season.

The 24-year-old joins the Surrey-based side with plenty of international experience having also at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and in the international test series with the England Vitality Roses in autumn 2022.

On joining Surrey Storm, Muhammed said: “I’m really excited to be making the move to the UK and playing at Surrey Storm. It’s a fantastic opportunity and I can’t wait to get started!”

Peace Proscovia might not be taking to court this time round, however, Uganda have been smart to give her a role in the coaching team for these two series. The NSL icon will be taking the role of Assistant Coach in January, whilst also keeping touch with Surrey Storm ahead of the 2024 season.

Landing in fifth position on the top scorer leaderboard at the end of last season, despite taking some time out, Peace still managed to sink 564 goals. Her role as Assistant Coach will work wonders for this Ugandan side, as her knowledge and understanding of the game will shine through from herself to her players.
