Share Strathclyde Sirens have announced that South African Zanele Vimbela will not take to court for the 2021 season after suffering a knee injury at the recent TNL tournament in South Africa. Sirens have confirmed that Vimbela has ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) which will now require surgery and a period of rehabilitation. The South African international played an integral part in the opening round of the 2020 season for Sirens, with displays earning player of the match awards and receiving plaudits from pundits and fans alike. Strathclyde Sirens Technical Director, Karen Atkinson, said: “As a club, we are truly devastated that Zan has sustained an injury of this nature. Zan has been a fantastic addition to our team both on and off the court and we were looking forward to her building on her standout performances at the beginning of the 2020 VNSL season. We will be doing everything that we can to support Zan during this difficult time” Zanele Vimbela said “Although it was great to get out on court and play in South Africa’s TNL, sadly it’s been short-lived through sustaining a knee injury. I was really looking forward to getting back to the UK and getting back out on court with my Sirens teammates and it’s unfortunate that I won’t be able to take part in the Vitality Netball Superleague. It will be a challenging journey to recovery, but it will be worth it to get back out on court, in better and stronger form.” As a result of this injury, Strathclyde Sirens are able to sign a replacement and this will be announced in due course.
