Defensive powerhouse Emily Nicholl makes her return to Strathclyde Sirens for the Vitality Netball Superleague (VNSL) 2022 season.

The 27-year-old goal defence is another of the original franchise players, having been a part of the Scottish side since its inception.

No stranger to hard work both on and off the netball court, Nicholl is a full-time recruitment solicitor and was also recently selected as one of ten international netball athletes to form the inaugural World Netball Voice of the Athlete working group. Aimed at increasing collaboration in netball, the athletes have been selected to ensure representation across the five World Netball Regions.

Nicholl has also played an integral role with the Scottish Thistles since her first international cap in 2016 and has since gone on to represent Scotland in the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the 2019 Vitality Netball World Cup.

“Sirens is where it all started for me so to sign on for another year was an easy decision. The commitment that the club has to continuously strive to be better aligns strongly with my values. If you thought last year was exciting, I predict big things for this group in 2022,” said Nicholl.

Strathclyde Sirens Head Coach, Lesley MacDonald, said: I am delighted to have Emily back for her sixth Sirens season.

“Emily is a true leader both on and off the court. She is the ultimate professional leading by example in everything she does and driving our team culture, a tremendous asset to any team.

“Leading from the back, Emily had her best season in 2021 therefore I am looking forward to seeing her develop the defensive partnerships further and having consistent back-to-back seasons.”

Nicholl becomes Strathclyde Sirens’ sixth signing of the 2022 Signing Window after Towera Vinkhumbo, Emma Barrie, Taylor McKevitt, Gia Abernethy and Bethan Goodwin. You can see the Sirens squad as it develops here.
