Share Scottish International Ella Gibbons is the latest player to be unveiled as part of the Loughborough Lightning squad for the forthcoming 2017 Vitality Netball Superleague season. Read on for the full Lightning release below: The Loughborough University Sport & Exercise Science student is a talented all-round sportswoman, having finished fourth at the British Athletics Championships in the high jump. However having made a return to netball last year whilst on a placement in London, the goal keeper has decided to make a permanent switch back to her first love. A BUCS silver medallist in the high jump, Gibbons will look to go one better on the netball court in 2016/17, as well as making her Superleague debut. Having returned to netball, the Loughborough student was immediately invited into the Scottish National Squad where she competed at Netball Europe in 2016 and the recent Celtic Clash against Northern Ireland. Of being part of the Loughborough Lightning squad for the first time, Gibbons said: “I am incredibly excited to play for Loughborough Lightning this season. After only returning to netball a year ago, to be able to play and learn alongside great players and benefit from the coaching team’s expertise is a fantastic opportunity – the set-up here really is fantastic! I cannot wait to pull on the Lightning dress, get on court and play against the best sides in the UK.” Head Coach Karen Atkinson added: “Ella has been a fantastic surprise addition to our training environment here in Loughborough. She is a fantastic athlete and despite the short amount of time she has been back in netball she has proved she has all the attributes to go far. She is tall, rangy and can get off the floor, and with the exposure to our daily training environment I am excited at how far she can progress this season.” Stay tuned for our final squad announcement and ticket details, which are both coming soon.
