Bailey makes Storm switch

Surrey Storm are delighted to welcome former Australian Diamonds shooter Karyn Bailey to the Sports Park Arena for the 2020 Superleague season.

Bailey, who joins Storm after two seasons with Saracens Mavericks, is also Mikki Austin’s second All-Star signing for next weekend’s Netball Fast5 All-Stars at the Copper Box Arena.

One of the top shooters in Superleague, Bailey brings a wealth of experience and quality to the Storm squad from a career which features accolades including three years with the Diamonds, an Australian Netball League Player of the Year award, an ANZ Championship title and the 2015 Melbourne Vixens MVP award.

“Surrey Storm offers me an opportunity to be a part of a team that is building for the future,” admitted Karyn. “Mikki was quite frank about her ambitions for the team, and her desire to reach the top 4 next year – and the overall vision as to how we would strive for that – was refreshing to hear for a seasoned player like myself. It is an exciting prospect and something I look forward to being a part of.”

“Having been around the game for quite some time I would like to think I have some knowledge and wisdom of the game,” she suggested. “The ability to lead both on and off the court and mentor the girls around me allows a seamless transition for the club. To play a part within the bigger picture is an honour, and I can’t wait to pull on the duck egg blue dress and meet all the Surrey Storm fans!”

“I’m super excited to have someone of Karen Bailey’s calibre representing the duck egg blue for next season,” said Mikki Austin. “Karen has been a stalwart of netball across the world for the past five or six years now. She is a decorated netballer and her accolades speak for themselves.

“We’re thrilled to have someone of her quality in that shooting end. What she’ll bring is pretty invaluable for a team like us, who are on the rise and gunning for that top four, and she’s potentially going to be that extra added edge that’s going to enable us to do that.”
