Pulse cruise past Rhinos to reach summit

Credit: Liam Asman/Alamy Live News

London Pulse cruised to a 66-34 victory over Leeds Rhinos in an exciting Easter Saturday clash.

There were solid starts from both teams as some back and forth play kept the scores level halfway through the first quarter but Pulse soon broke the impasse with Berri Neil and Funmi Fadoju making turnovers that saw Pulse take a seven goal lead into the first break.

The second quarter was another cracker for Pulse who saw their lead extended through some intense defensive pressure and a swift attacking unit of Jade Clarke and Chelsea Pitman easing the home side ahead.

Vicky Oyesola shone for Rhinos in defence, making a total of four interceptions, six deflections and six turnovers to keep Rhinos in the game early on.

But Pulse continued to edge ahead and Neil summed up the second quarter with a buzzer beating long bomb that saw nothing but net and Pulse went into the half time break leading 34-21.

Ellie Rattu entered the court at centre as an injection of fresh legs for Pulse and helped extend her team's lead to 48-26 with one quarter left.

Elle McDonald worked hard for Rhinos to push them back into the game, with a staggering 25 feeds into the circle as wing attack but the turnover rate of Pulse was too much for the Yorkshire side.

Olivia Tchine was a scoring machine as she cruised to 42 goals and held off a Rhinos side.

Pulse grabbed the victory with a 32 lead, placing them top of the Super League table on goal difference against Manchester Thunder.
